Circular Sealed Connector for Outdoor LED Lighting Solutions

Beijing -- June 23, 2009 -- Tyco Electronics has introduced a Circular Lighting Sealed Connector for wire-to-wire and water-proof connector applications. The new connectors feature anti-oxidant rubber threads with UV-prevention configurations (PVC option is also available) and can achieve IP67 sealing. The connectors are available in 2, 3 or 4 positions. The 2- and 3-position sizes can be used with either rubber or PVC cable -- the 4-position size is only available for PVC cable. Designed for miniaturization of nodes, the connector's outer diameter is only 18.2 mm. These new connectors reflect the trend of miniaturization and provide an easy-to-use way to connectorize LED lighting in a broad range of outdoor applications, such as light strings, spotlights, wall washers, electronic billboards, high-quality tunnel lighting, floodlights, and street lights.

The Future is Blowing in the Wind: Connectors for Wind Power Ease Installation & Maintenance

As wind power hits its stride as a mainstream technology for providing affordable green energy, manufacturers, installers, and operators all look to lower installation and operating costs while improving efficiency. Faster installs, higher reliability, and easier maintenance all play a role in the economics of wind power—getting a turbine online quickly and ready to run reliably and without interruption are critical concerns.

As the wind power industry matures, standardization is also occurring. Standards organizations are beginning to evolve standards specific to wind turbines. As always, many designers are turning to existing technology such as Industrial Ethernet, which is readily available, or to widely proven approaches such as modular industrial connectors.
