Tyco Electronics announced today it has received a $2 million contract award from Raytheon Missile Systems to produce products for Raytheon’s precision-guided, long-range Excalibur artillery projectile. Tyco Electronics will produce M/A-COM telemetry transmitter modules, Global Positioning System (GPS) antennas and telemetry antennas to support Excalibur and contribute to the projectile’s accuracy in both urban and complex terrain and reduce collateral damage. The antennas and transmitter modules are high performance, miniaturized products that are integrated into the projectile body and can withstand all of the severe operational environments. Raytheon’s Excalibur is currently the only precision long-range weapon immediately responsive to the Brigade Combat Team.

Tyco Electronics today introduced a new series of M/A-COM FE Series of ruggedized mast cables intended for use in ground mobile communication applications. The series was designed with an internal wire-wound layer and rugged external jacket in order to prevent damage from harsh military environments such as being deployed to an external antenna from a mobile vehicle. The new M/A-COM ruggedized mast cable family (FE Series) can withstand harsher physical environments (such as crushing, abrasion or bending) than standard cable, while still maintaining acceptable VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Radio) and insertion loss performance.Â Cables are available in outer diameters ranging from 0.25 to 1.4 inches with a variety of connectors.

Tyco Electronics today introduced a new family of M/A-COM driver amplifiers for point-to-point (P2P) radios. The new driver amplifier family covers allocated point-to-point bands from 4.9 to 15.4 GHz: the M/A-COM MAAM-007523 amplifier covering 4.9 - 8.5 GHz, and the MAAM-007524 amplifier covering 10.0 - 15.4 GHz. The amplifier family features +32 dBm IP3 (third-order intercept point) linearity and P1dB levels ranging from 19 to 21 dBm. They are self-biased and may be operated with drain supplies ranging from 4.5 to 8.0 volts to optimize system performance including linearity, gain and power efficiency. This new family of driver amplifiers complements the existing line of M/A-COM point-to-point amplifiers and work well together to provide excellent system performance.
