Joan Wainwright is Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications at Tyco Electronics, one of the world’s largest providers of engineered electronic components, network solutions, undersea telecommunication systems and specialty products. With fiscal 2008 sales of US$14.8 billion* , Tyco Electronics has approximately 75,000 employees in 50 countries.

As the head of Marketing and Communications, Ms. Wainwright leads the external and internal communications, corporate branding and reputation, government relations and philanthropic programs for the company. Additionally, Ms. Wainwright has responsibility for the company’s eBusiness and global distribution programs.

Ms. Wainwright joined Tyco Electronics in June 2006 from Merck & Co., Inc., where she most recently served as Vice President, Public Affairs. Prior to that, she served in the Clinton Administration as Deputy Commissioner of Communications for the U.S. Social Security Administration. Ms. Wainwright has worked in the communications and public relations departments at the University Health System of New Jersey, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the University of Delaware and Villanova University.

An accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, Ms. Wainwright holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Delaware, Delaware, U.S. and a Master of Business Administration from Temple University, Pennsylvania, U.S.
