HARRISBURG, Pa., July 17, 2006 - Tyco Electronics' standardized CardBus connector technology, based on the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) standards, now offers customers an integrated heatsink to address their thermal concerns. Initially, CardBus connector technology with integrated heatsink was developed to meet the thermal needs in set-top boxes and flat screen televisions. Presently, this integrated connector technology is gaining market interest beyond the consumer marketplace with increasing application opportunities.
Tyco Electronics' standardized CardBus connector with integrated heatsink utilizes specialized interface material for optimum thermal performance and conductivity. The product features an aluminum extruded heatsink for use in low watt card applications. The holes of the standardized mounting ejector mechanism allow for top-level expansion of the heatsink. The engagement is via a "hinge" action, allowing for direct contact of the heatsink and the PC card. The unique design of the card ejector mechanism prolongs Thermal Interface Material (TIM) life and promotes simplicity in the insertion and removal of the PC Card. The low height and compact size of the CardBus connector with heatsink allows for greater design flexibility in customer applications.
Tyco Electronics Product Manager Eric Himelright comments, "This particular solution for PCMCIA applications showcases Tyco Electronics' ability to integrate our thermal expertise into our existing connector base to solve our customers' thermal concerns."
