M/A-COM, a business unit of Tyco Electronics and a leading provider of wireless radio frequency (RF), microwave and millimeter wave components, today announced two new additions to its family of broadband, high linearity driver amplifiers, the MAAMSS0056 and MAAMSS0057. M/A-COM's new two-stage driver amplifiers have a broad frequency range with high linearity and reliability, which makes this product family ideal for a variety of wireless applications including basestations, WiMAX and WiBro.
"While any component in a transmit-receive communications system can introduce distortion and non-linearities to a signal, the transmit amplifier chain is a significant contributor because this is one of the last operations performed on the signal before it is radiated," said Dr. Paul McIntosh, power amplifier design manager for IC Products, M/A-COM. "We've extended our driver amplifier offerings to provide system engineers with the option of higher gain, high linearity driver amplifier solutions. This complements our existing single stage driver amplifier offerings which include the MAAMSS0017, MAAMSS0048, MAAMSS0049 and MAAMSS0050 by providing higher gain devices that are required in the transmit amplifier chain."
M/A-COM's MAAMSS0056 and MAAMSS0057 are gain blocks with output P1dB levels of +27.5 dBm and +31 dBm and a gain of 22 dB and 20 dB, respectively at 2140 MHz. The amplifiers are fabricated using a high reliability GaAs HBT process and achieves high third order output intercept performance over a wide power range. The usable bandwidth for this family of amplifiers is very broad, ranging from 250 MHz to 4000 MHz. The amplifiers can be optimized for a specific frequency range with external matching components and are housed in Pb-free, RoHS compliant SOIC-8EP plastic packages.
