Tyco Electronics Introduces Low Flouride Aerospace Wire
HARRISBURG, Pa - May 10, 2006 - Tyco Electronics recently introduced RAYCHEM brand SPEC 55 low fluoride aerospace wire and cable. This new product is a breakthrough for aerospace electronics designers since previously; low fluoride XL-ETFE wire was not available to the industry. Minimizing fluoride levels in aerospace wire is very important since fluoride may evaporate from traditional XL-ETFE wire insulations, combine with moisture, and result in a corrosive substance. Corrosion in the proximity of wire, cable, and electronics does not bode well for reliability, long life, or performance of sensitive aerospace electronics. In addition to satellites, missiles, and aircraft applications, SPEC 55 low fluoride wire and cable can be used in test and measurement equipment and other sensitive electronic equipment. There is also significant benefit to assemblies that are stored in sealed bags for long periods of time.
SPEC 55 low fluoride wires and cable have demonstrated low corrosive characteristics similar to polytetrafluoroethelene (PTFE). This represents an improvement of up to 60 times compared to standard mil-spec XL-ETFE wiring insulation material currently being used. Additionally, cross-linking makes SPEC 55 low fluoride wire a non-melting insulation system with an operating range of 150 - 200 degrees C.
This product is RoHS compliant.
