GREENSBORO, NC — July 10, 2009 — Tyco Electronics' AMP NETCONNECT business unit has announced that Network Integrity Systems (NIS) has certified the complete line of AMP NETCONNECT interlocking armor optical fiber cables for use in protected distribution systems (PDS) when alarmed by the NIS Interceptor™ Optical Network Security System. NIS manufactures the INTERCEPTOR™ system, which monitors fibers within cables carrying classified transmissions to protect against physical intrusions. Interlocking armor optical fiber cables provide a robust metallic protective barrier around common constructions of optical fiber cable. Together, they are a solution which meets the requirements outlined in a recently updated United States Air Force policy for protected distribution systems (PDS), which includes this alternative to traditional hardened carrier systems (such as EMT or commercial secure raceway). Tyco Electronics was the first supplier to undergo the certification process for Network Integrity Systems Interlocking Armor Cable. Based on testing conducted on a variety of cable samples, Network Integrity Systems certified the complete line of AMP NETCONNECT interlocking armor cables, including multimode, single-mode, loose tube and tight buffered cables. AMP NETCONNECT interlocking armor optical fiber cables alarmed by the Interceptor™ Optical Network Security System can now be used for securing SIPRNet and JWICS networks as an approved PDS solution for CONUS US Air Force, Air National Guard and USAF Reserve bases, as well as off-base government locations operating at SECRET and below and TOP SECRET/SPECAT classification levels. The solution is also approved for OCONUS air bases and facilities operating at SECRET and below classification levels. "We are excited to certify Tyco Electronics AMP NETCONNECT cables," said Joe Giovannini of Network Integrity Systems. "This certification removes the last obstacle for use in PDS installations - the question about cable compatibility. Now our customers can confidently deploy the Interceptor Optical Network Security System on AMP NETCONNECT interlocking armor cable and be assured that the tremendous benefits of this solution will be realized." Herb Congdon, Manager of Government Programs for Tyco Electronics added that the interlocking armored optical fiber cable alarmed by the Interceptor™ Optical Network Security System fits perfectly with AMP NETCONNECT Solutions. "We emphasize the importance of technology and innovation to save our customers' money and time for secure cabling installations," said Congdon. "It is a perfect complement to our complete line of SECURE connectivity products."
